Pools vs Spas: Factors to Consider When Choosing Only One

  • Written by Carmel Issac

Sydney is a city that enjoys a sunny climate for most of the year. It is estimated that Sydney has 300 days of sunshine, and 65 days of rain spread from June to October. It does not snow in Sydney, and when it comes wintertime, the lowest temperatures that the city can experience is around 8 degrees Celsius with the very rare occurrence of going below this number. On the other hand, Sydney experiences warm summers with temperatures reaching its peak during October with an average of 22 degrees Celsius. This temperature makes it a great idea to invest in Sydney pools and spas

Pools and spas usually go together with spas connected to the end of the pools. However, for some people, having both a pool and a spa may not be in their budget, which will make them choose between one or another. So, if you have to choose between a pool and a spa, which one will you choose? Here is some information that will help you in choosing which water installation will work best for your needs.

The Amount of Space

For obvious reasons, your choice of a pool or spa will be dependent on the amount of space you allot for them. A typical swimming pool is rectangular and has standard dimensions of where the length is twice as long as its width. For an area of 18 square metres, the pool dimensions that can be installed are 6 x 2, 6 x 3, or 6 x 4 metres. When choosing to install a pool, you must also consider a pool deck which will also take up space. On the other hand, a spa can easily fit into a small backyard with only minor adjustments. The smallest spa size that can accommodate 2 to 4 people is 1.6 m x 2.2 m.

  • If the materials that are going to be used are the same, a pool will be more expensive to install than a spa. Spas are also easier and cheaper to maintain. Since spas use less water, it also means that you spend less on cleaning chemicals and water bills. Spas are also ideal for homeowners who wish to have a water entertainment installed in their yards without destroying the property value of the home. With a spa, you can easily remove the installation when you decide to sell your home in the future.

  • One thing to consider when you are living in Sydney is that it is sunny almost 300 days of the year. This climate is perfect to have both Sydney pools and spas installed in your yard. However, if you have to choose one, a pool may be an ideal investment since you can use it all year-round.

Your Commitment Level

One important factor to consider when choosing between a pool and a spa is your level of commitment in the upkeep. A pool may be challenging to maintain, and you may end up spending a lot in hiring for pool cleaning services. On the other hand, a spa can easily be maintained, and when you are not using it, you can cover it up easily, set it aside, and not worry about it until your next use.

The Wow Factor

With all things being equal, a spa is easier to install, cheaper, and can easily be maintained. However, it is what you want that will trump all other factors. If you are going to have great swimming parties all year long and have an avenue for keeping fit, then a pool will work great for you. On the other hand, if you are more into de-stressing after a day’s work, then a spa will do you good. However, if you can afford to do so, choose to have both Sydney pools and spas for your home.
